Cruise And Site Tips / FAQ's

1. Where is the cruise?

The cruise is located at Central Retail Park, Grahams Road, Falkirk FK1 1LW.

2. When is the cruise?

The "main" cruise is on the 1st Thursday night of every month and usually starts around 8pm. In Summer things usually start earlier and people tend to stay longer, especially on a magazine night. People turn up on most Thursday and Sunday nights as well but for the main event the 1st Thursday night of the month is where it's at.

3. Who is welcome?

Everybody! This isn't an "organised" event, there's no guest list and no VIP's. Anyone can visit. Just remember to be on your best behaviour, obey the law and take your rubbish with you and you'll have a great time. Nobody likes anyone out to cause trouble, especially the Police who given the size of the event, WILL be in attendance.

4. Who runs the cruise?

No-one, we simply report on it and consider ourselves part of that community. It was there before any of us, and will still be going when we stop. Folks have always congregated to show off cars and swap stories, the monthly Falkirkcruise is simply one of those events, just on a bigger scale!

5. What's the story behind the Falkirkcruise website?

The website was started back in 2003 by Ray, Chris and a few others, some of whom you will still find around here. What started as a small group of friends has grown to what you see today, while still retaining that close knit atmosphere. If you click on the TEAM Menu Tab at the top of the page, you can read a little about the current Team Members of Falkirkcruise.

6. When are Max Power/Fastcar/other magazines coming to the cruise?

We post details of any of the major magazines cruises on the site. Most usually each of them visit at least once during the Summer months. Keep an eye on the FC Cruises section for details.

7. What do I do/who do I contact if there is trouble when I'm at the cruise?

Same as you normally would. Grap the nearest Police Officer or call 999

8. What should I do/How should I act at a cruise?

Keep the head, and play things sensibly. Remember you're only one of sometimes thousands of folks there, so behave in a manner that will let you and others have a good time. Be safe, and be mindful of the law, and local by-laws. Remember, if the police see you doing anything they consider to be unlawful they will prosecute you. It's more and more common these days to see families there, so play it accordingly. That's not to say you can't have a laugh, and don't be surprised to find a good bit of banter going on. Take it as it's (usually) intended. As always, there's no substitute for common sense.

9. How do I get to the cruise?

Post code is at the top of the page. Stick it in HERE as the destination, along with your own post code as the start point and bingo, there's your directions.

If you can at least get to Falkirk on your own, just ask where the Retail Park is or Cineworld. It's pretty simple, as most of Falkirk town centre is a one way system.

10. What do the Police make of all this cruise stuff?

It's a big event for them to deal with, and folks attitude tends to shape their dealings with them. Look for trouble from them and you'll most certainly get it. Keep your nose clean, have a laugh with them, and 99.9% of the time they'll respond in kind. They're only doing a job folks, and a difficult one at that. Most of the time they do it very, very well. Interestingly, there tends to be very little trouble at the cruise; most of the complaints centre about noise and litter, not driving...

They are in constant touch with the site, and hopefully will soon have their own section regarding things. We like to think we have on the whole an excellent relationship with the Police, and with hard work from all parties that can only further extend.

10. Can I contribute stuff to the site?

Of course! We'd be absolutely delighted if you did. Content is what makes the site, as are active members. We're always looking for folks to help out with stands, coverage of events, articles for the Knowledge Base, info on events, even just a link to a great site you've found. 15. Can I use images/videos/etc from your site?

Not without our consent. the internet is serious business, and it takes a lot of our own time to get things up. If you do want to use something, all we ask is you get in touch. In 99.9% of cases it won't be a problem, as long as we're properly credited and a link to the originals on the site is provided. Logo's, names etc of and on the site are copyrighted, all the photos are watermarked, so please don't try to be fly about it, as we don't want the hassle same as you don't. Ask, and unless there's a damn good reason, and normally as long as the credits given you'll usually get to use them.

16. Can I send you in some photos to put on the site?

Of course you can, and we'd be delighted to have them. Send us the biggest images of them you have, as we'll reduce them for the site accordingly. Highest quality you have please. Contact one of the Team if you have some for us.

17. What are the forum users like?

What most users do is to read through the last few days messages to see what people are like. Then take their first steps by posting on the forum. Keep the head and you should be fine. Act like an arse, and trust me, on here you'll be found out in 2 seconds flat. Remember, it's the internet, so folk can't see the body language behind what you're typing. It gets all to easy for it to come over wrong, so use the smilies if there's any doubt. Be serious, be funny, poke fun if you wish. Just remember it goes both ways, and if you give it out, you've got to be able to take it. Don't take yourself (or the others on here) TOO seriously. If you can approach it form that standpoint, you'll get on just fine. They're a great bunch once you get to know them, and the only way you will is by getting involved.

18. Moderation / Freedom Of Speech

We pride ourselves on being generally a tolerant site. As long as it ain't offensive, aggresive or inflamitory, it's not spam in the wrong place, wildly outsized photos or just plain indecent, chances are it'll survive intact, even when most forum would punt it off. All we ask is you read the rules, stick to them, and put stuff in the right place. Do that, and it'll all go swell. Don't, it's only going to go one way.

One of the more common things we come across are user misconceptions, these beautiful snippets of information that people who visit the site believe to be true and all encompassing. One classic example is the "freedom of speech" card, and this is sometimes banded around whenever a user feels they are not getting their own way after posting something deemed by a moderator or administrator not to be suitable (for whatever reason). "Freedom of speech", "Where's my post" or some general rant at the Team then erupts forth in a new thread. Well sorry to burst your bubble but there is no such thing as "freedom of speech" on here, or any other moderated forum you care to mention. Just as you will no doubt be lifted by our local constabulary for standing at the cruise shouting your mouth off about something (by way of Breach of the peace followed by ASBO) you will be removed from here and other sites just as swiftly for causing annoyance or acting inappropriately. Although these user's parents do pay for their internet access it does not give them a "right" to use a forum. Especially when they are not paying for the time invested in creating the databases, installing the software, keeping an eye on updates and upgrading as needed or the money involved in actually paying for server hosting fees and bandwidth changes. In essence if you post something and a moderator or administrator doesn't like the look of it for whatever reason they can and will lock, edit or remove the posting and quite possibly your account along with. Still taking umbrage at this? Remember when you signed up and clicked the "I Agree" link, one of the listed terms was "You agree that the webmaster, administrator and moderators of this forum have the right to remove, edit, move or close any topic at any time should they see fit." It pays to read the small print. Of course this part of the FAQ only applies to an extreme minority of internet users so chances are you'll do fine. If this part of the FAQ describes a scenario that you've been involved in take a step back and think it over. If you don't like it then you are free to leave at any time. We don't think that can be any more straight forward folks.

We hope to see you both on the site and at the many events we attend.

Enjoy your time on Falkirkcruise!
