1. How long have you had T1 4NDO & how many different incarnations
have there been since you 1st got it?
I have owned the Version 6 for near five years now getting her as a trade in against my Escort Cosworth back in 2004. Over the years it has seen many of different uses and modifications from winning the drifting challenges up at knockhill two years in a row in 2004/05 running at 350bhp, drag racing at crail 2005/07 running 425bhp and now track racing at 650bhp in Time Attack. Don’t know whats next for her.
2. How are you finding the Time Attack series to compete in?
The Time Attack series has been an eye opener and a steep learning curve for me and AWD Motorsport as I had totally under estimated the other cars and competitors and had no idea how tough it is, not just the actual day/race but the prep involved in the car and the severe cost of it all including accommodation and travelling. We are improving (me and the car) at every event as Brands Hatch proved running very consistent low times all day but as you also know we only have one event left this year so we are pulling out all the stops to try get a result.
3. How did you first get involved in motorsport?
I have always been into the modifying scene from when I first passed my test having various modified cars throughout the years ranging from Renault 5 GTT’s, Uno Turbo, Golf GTI, Escort Cosworth, Nissan Skyline, Puma Racing the list goes on, some of the car’s good and some real bad. It wasn’t until 1999 when AWD Motorsport opened in my home town of Perth that I become serious in in tuning and modifying and built my first heavily modded Impreza 5dr WRX which was cosmetic as apposed to fast but did manage 3 mag features, I haven’t stopped from then.
4. How do you prepare for an event & how do you prepare the car?
The prep for Time attack starts as soon as we get back from the previous race as each event we are learning and constantly changing the car. I think on average we will spend about 40>50 hours on prep prior to each race carrying out repairs and further modifications.
5. Why subaru?
I have tried all makes and models of cars like I mentioned earlier but have found the Impreza to be the most fun to drive and tune plus the Subaru community are a good bunch. It is also practical for me obviously working in a Subaru Tuning environment having access to parts and knowledge on the car.
6. What do you do as a full-time job?
I currently manage AWD Motorsport Engineering in Perth building tricked out Subaru’s and Evo’s.
7. Top gear or 5th gear, which is better?
Top Gear, that Tiff is an arse, although Top Gear is getting a bit false and rehearsed for my liking.
8. What is your everyday car?
I do use the Impreza on the road just not all the time due to cost’s and have a Golf GTI 20v Turbo.
9. What do you keep in your glovebox?
My glove box is in the bin, they are heavy.
10. What are your motorsport ambitions?
Iam 32 years old now so Motorsport ambitions are fading away but think I will give the Nippon challenge a go next year just for fun.
